¡Buena Suerte Órla!

My latest cake unfortunately was a "going away" themed cake for my older sister. She has packed up and left me for a year of studying in Bilbao, España.

For her cake, I made a suit case with two maps of Ireland and Spain, and a plane flying from one to the other.

Hoping Órla has a wonderful time in Spain.

Love you Sissy.

Toy Story

I LOVE getting cake orders from people who aren't a family friend or a relation - knowing someone far out has heard about me and my cakes, is super exciting!

This cake was for a little boy who loves Woody from Toy Story.

I had never seen Toy Story before this cake order, so I didn't really know what to do. Not only this, but it was a late order and I already had two cakes for the same weekend - so Google came in handy for this.

The cake was Vanilla Sponge with Vanilla Butter Cream!
YUM!

Birthday Wish

This next cake was for my very good friend, Emma. She finally turned 18 on the 22nd of June and celebrated in style!
Here she is the night of her party with a present bought for her by yours truly!

TEQUILA!

Here she is chuggin' her present!

Things you should know about Emma:
-She LOVES:
- Shoes
-Hello Kitty
- Leopard Print
- All things Pink

-Her BlackBerry
- Manchester United

Here is the cake I created for her combining all 6......

Emma loved her cake and had a terrific night.

Birthday Boots

This cake was for my boyfriends 17th birthday. He LOVES chocolate cake and football, so I combined the two. This is my attempt at a cake version of his football boots.

His feet aren't extremely fat and are in proportion to one another - This is merely my lack of talent when it comes to carving football boots. None of this really mattered, because he was angry that I had wasted cake that he could have eaten.

Anyway, he seemed happy enough with it anyway, and ate every bit!

Hopefully my next pair of boots will be more equally proportioned!

Munster Rugby

This cake was for one of my teachers daughters.
This cake was important to me because this particular teacher has supported me so much with my love of cake decorating. So I really wanted to do a good job for her.
Her daughter is a massive Munster rugby and Ronan O'Gara fan. So, naturally, she got Ronans Munster jersey.

The actual Munster crest was really difficult. I didn't know how I was going to pipe a Deer! But I struggled through, and got there in the end. Thank God!

Here's more photos from different angles:

Thankfully, my teacher loved the cake, and so did her daughter!

Fire Man Sam

This cake was for a young girl who loves Fireman Sam!

The cake was Chocolate Fudge with Chocolate Butter Cream Icing.

I was really happy with the Fireman Sam figure. It was the first one I made that didn't fall apart. [YAY]

Here's the cake from another angle!

Hope you all like it!

DJ Decks

This cake was for my close friend's 18th back in April. What I loved about making it was that her mam had ordered the cake and she didn't know what she was getting. Her mother chose excellent elements for the cake. Firstly, it was Chocolate Fudge, a girls best friend. Secondly, it showed her daughters love of music, represented by the cake itself, as a DJ Decks.

On the cake was a GAA football, a BlackBerry Curve, and a bottle of WKD  Blue. Three different things that had significant meaning to the recipient of the cake

The cake had a lot of detail with all the little nozzles and buttons. Not only that, but I hand painted a 'screen' for it that read "Happy 18th Fiona!".

This cake was really time consuming but worth it in the end!
I hope you like it as much as I do!

2 Tiered Memories

This was my very first tiered cake!
It was for my Moms surprise 50th birthday party in April. [I'm behind as usual!]

I was really nervous about making this cake because it was my first tiered cake AND it was for my mom. So I wanted it to be perfect!

The bottom tier was Vanilla Sponge, and the top tier was a delish Chocolate Fudge, both filled with yummy butter cream.

I got the idea for this cake from watching Ace of Cakes. [Which I LOVE!]
But basically what I was going for was a road going all over the cake, representing her life. And then I got photos of her throughout her life printed to add all over it.

I also added little blossoms all over the cake for the 'cute factor'.
Hope you like it!

Boozey Baking

This cake was for an 18th Birthday Party.
They asked for the GAA football to be added to it also.
I had the label printed on edible paper.
It was actually huge with a lot of waste due to carving!

Castle Cake

This was a little girls 6th birthday cake.
My Little Pony dolls were added along the side afterwards.
The bottom tier was chocolate fudge while the top was my first attempt at a rainbow cake. Unfortunately I have no picture of it once it was cut into.

Baa Baa Baking

Okay so I haven't been on this in quite some time [AGAIN!]

Here's a farming themed cake I did for a local 21st.
It was my classic chocolate fudge cake recipe with butter cream filling and I'm really happy with how it turned out!
I love the little sheep characters, even if I do say so myself!

Catch Up!

Gosh, I haven't wrote on this in so long! So I'm just going to upload photos of my most recent cakes - Hope you enjoy!

Sunday 15 January 2012

It's a dogs life.

This cake was a last minute order as it was for an engagement party.
The couple have a white dog, and they wanted it incorporated into their cake. So I was told to make a big dog with the couple on the top and some form of a marriage contract too.
I was so nervous about carving the shape of the dog as I either got it right or wrong. I felt under a lot of pressure!

One thing I got out of this cake was that my ability to make people figurines has definitely improved since my first attempt!
I don't have a photo showing the head which is just as well as it was awful! I had googled many ways to make a dogs head and everyone seemed to make them out of styrofoam - which unfortunately wasn't available to me. So I had to make it just out of fondant which was far too heavy, and wasted loads of it. I noticed the head was far too small but unfortunately that was the last of my white fondant.
 I'll know for again.

Happy New Year!

Wow I haven't wrote on this since last year! Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I hope to get the last treats I've done in the last weeks of 2011 just in this one post.

First up was a Minnie Mouse cake for a friend of my mothers niece.

I wasn't sure to make it obvious that it was Minnie and not Mickey, so I added a bow and drew on some eyelashes!

Next was a pint of Guiness  for my Uncle Gerrys birthday!

Then I had a cake for my boyfriends Mothers 50th Birthday.

It was my first go at piping and I wasn't happy with it at all!

I used way too big of a nozzle and I did it in butter-cream icing as I had some left over where as I should have used royal icing.

Up next were some
 Christmas Gingerbread cookies!

Then I had a lorry cake.
The women said she wanted it just black and white, which I did. But I feel it was quiet plain because of the lack of colour!

On Christmas Day I made a Chocolate Strawberry Gataux.

And my last cake of the year was a M&S shopping bag for a women's 70th birthday.

xoxo
